flossing has never been easier July 27, 2010 Jeffrey Gillman (Michigan USA) I've tried lots of floss handles, disposable floss-ups, and other flossing devices, and this is the best of them all. Strong and well-built, and uses regular (any kind of) floss for decreased cost and less waste than the dispoable ones. Wind the floss once around the post while anchoring it by the base of the handle with your thumb, around the ends (pinching them together slightly to get a good tension on the floss), and twice more around the post. I use it with a wider glide tape, and it's the easiest flossing I've done in years (and the gaps between my teeth are quite a range, in some places so tight that regular disposable floss-ups just rip or come apart). Best of all: it's quick, and I don't have to put my hands in my mouth (because who knows where *they've* been?).
Not taut enough July 25, 2010 fyres It doesn't really hold the floss taut enough to get in the hard to reach areas, and if your teeth are tight together, the lack of tension might prove to be a bit of a challenge to get the floss in between the teeth. I've had the floss get stuck between my teeth and I had to unwind the entire thing from the Flossaid to pull the floss out. No amount of tightening it made it taut enough. (I don't have a problem with things like the disposable flossers or the Reach Flossers.) That's just the way it is with these type of flossing tools. I've had similar ones in the past and they're all like that. The plastic does bend/flex a bit and if it was a sturdier, harder plastic, it may provide more floss tension, but then again, it could cause the Flossaid to snap. It's a give n take so it's fine the way it is. Just gotta learn to work with it. With a bit of patience this gets the job done and it's more economical than buying disposable flossers.
The Flossaid is a bit on the wide side so if you have a small mouth, or if you plan on getting it for children, it might not work well.
I still think that Reach Flossers and disposable flossers are easier to use, but having to buy refills for the Reach Flossers for the entire family gets really expensive so the Flossaids will do fine.
Dental Floss Holder make flossing easy May 10, 2010 L. Q. Lee (Goodyear, Arizona, USA) I was being recommended by my dentist to get this type of dental floss holder to floss my rear bottom teeth which I had been having problem with. Typical floss pick which is short cannot effectively clean those rear bottom teeth. I was trying to search around my neighborhood for such a design but unfortunately did not manage to find any. Amazon.com offer this with free shipping which I think it is a good deal for a set of clean teeth.
Get a different one March 24, 2010 Mark (Boston, MA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I wish the pictures were better. This particular flosser is about as long as a toothbrush, and the prongs are about 1-1/2" apart. There's a little button where the prongs meet where you wind the floss around--this is held in place by a brass tack/rivet kind of thing. The prongs are angled, and at the end of each one is a shallow groove, which holds the floss in place. The handle is a bit less than 1/4" thick.
Anyway, this feels really flimsy because the material just isn't robust enough. If I really pushed it, I'm pretty sure it would snap--it would be much better if it were made of steel or something. There's a lot of "give" when I'm moving it around in my mouth, and so that plus the design of the prongs (you can see they're at an angle, which really restricts your movements), makes the whole thing really awkward to maneuver.
Disposables are much easier to use, but if you're convinced you want a refillable flosser, search around a bit and see if you can find the "Ezy Floss" which feels a lot more like a disposable.
Excellent tool for flossing March 23, 2010 N. Lemaire (Hickory, NC) These floss holders used to be given out by dentists. Now you can't even find them in stores. I was happy to be able to get them online, and they are exactly as I remember. They are easy to thread and quite strong - should last a good long time.
