Advanced Hydration and Comfort Features
The skin on your face is a sensitive surface that can easily dry out or become irritated by harsh shaving or an inadequate razor. With its Ultra Glide blades with Skin Guards and water-activated skin conditioners, the Schick Hydro 5 keeps your skin hydrated and smooth with each shave. The razor's Ultra Glide blades with Skin Guards provide more points of contact on the skin, creating a flatter, smoother surface to shave, resulting in a comfortable shave with less irritation.

While most razors have conditioning strips made from a combination of conditioners and plastic, the Hydro 5 features a deep reservoir full of 100% pure conditioner that lasts up to two times longer. The Hydrating Gel Reservoir releases water-activated Aloe- and Vitamin E-enriched lubrication that forms into a gel as you shave for effortless glide and hydration.

Flip Trimmer and Ergonomic Handle
Activate the Hydro 5's Flip Trimmer feature for more precise trimming of hard-to-reach places. With a simple flick of your thumb, you can flip back the Hydrating Gel Reservoir so that all five blades touch the skin, as opposed to the single edging blade on most razors. In addition, the Hydro 5's premium, high-gloss ergonomic handle rests naturally in your hand for a comfortable shaving experience.

The Schick Hydro 5 Blade Razor is designed to work with Schick Hydro Sensitive Shave Gel and Schick Hydro Moisturizing Shave Gel. And Schick Hydro 5 Blade Refill are also available.

What's in the Box
One Schick Hydro 5 Blade Razor with two replacement blades.

5 out of 5 stars Good Razor   September 8, 2010
Mad Ethyl Flint (St Louis, MO)
I did not try this product however gave it to my husband. He was leary about the 5 blades, however he tried it both with shaving cream and without.
Nice close shave and left his skin soft. No stubble, no nicks.

The blades do not clog like the 2 blade razors and last through several shaves.

Thank you.
MEF

4 out of 5 stars better than the Quattro, but not remarkable   September 8, 2010
E. A. Jones
First, I should mention that I use the Hydro 5 to shave my legs. The shave is quite smooth, much smoother than I anticipated. The shave lasts longer than any other razor I've used. In both these regards it has been much better than the Quattro. However, the lubricating strip has a little hinge so it can flex as it moves across the skin, and the hinge broke almost immediately once I started using the razor. It happened on the refill, too. The lubrication strip is the same as any other strip on any other razor. Also, I noticed that the razor had a little more trouble pivoting and special care had to be taken around the ankles and knees where it wasn't a straight shave. All in all, I liked the razor, but it wasn't as spectacular as I was expecting.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as Fusion.   September 7, 2010
Bearcat (Ohio)
Schick Hydro 5 Blade Razor is an average razor. I compared it against the Gillette Fusion which I have used since it came out. The Fusion provides a closer shave than the Hydro. I'm not sure if it's the vibration of the blades on the Fusion but I consistently get a better shave. The Hydro did not knick or cut me but I felt more stubble still on my face after using the Hydro in the same manner as the Fusion. I also did not like the flip trimmer. I had to use the flip trimmer to get the tight area between the bottom of my nose and the top of my upper lip...the fusion reached this area fine without any adjustments. While this is a decent razor it does not come close to the Fusion based on my usage.

4 out of 5 stars Faster shave, lesser irritation   September 7, 2010
M. Cordoba (USA)
VS other manual razors:
-------------------------
Advantages:
- faster shave (the 5 blades seem to work better than other 3 and 4 blade razors I've used)
- less irritation

Disadvantages:
- none that I can think of

VS Electric:
----------------
Advantages
- Closer shave
- Slightly easier to shave neck

Disadvantages
- more irritation
- slightly slower

Other comments:
- Like with all razors (electric or not), the neck is still hard to shave well

Overall, it's a very good razor, that gives you a clean shave with less irritation than most manual razors.

5 out of 5 stars Gives a comfortable close shave   September 7, 2010
S. Jacobs (Northern Virginia)
I've used a variety of razors over the years from the single edged blades, the Trac II, various triple and quad blades and even Gillette's latest offering. The Schick Hydro 5 is so far the winner of the blade wars.

The razor fits my hand pretty well, it balances nicely so I don't need a death grip on it to avoid injury to myself, and most importantly, it gives a close, comfortable shave. It also has a nifty little flip up blade guard so you can trim sideburns and under your nose.

I usually use a major-brand shaving gel when I shave so all my comments will be based on my experience using that. I've never liked foam very much with multiple blades and have always had problems with clogging. I also avoid the bargain brands of gel since they're frequently too watery.

Day 1-5:
My first five days with the new razor were bliss. The shave was silky smooth and I felt no pulling at all. Since I'm not big on reading directions, I didn't initially notice that the blade guard on the top of the razor flipped up out of the way so you could shave under the nose. So far, I've not managed to flip the guard back one-handed, but I suppose that's something to aspire to.

My Gillette razor had a small 6th blade on top that required you to flip the razor upside down in order to trim sideburns or get close underneath the nose. The advantage of the Gillette method is that I'm able to get more into the nostril (yes... I know... too much information), but I've also cut myself that way too. For safety's sake, the Schick method's a bit better.

Day 6-12:
By the time day 6 or 7 rolled around, I noticed a bit more pulling when I shaved, but it still cuts very close with little effort. The part under my jaw's usually harder to shave and by this time, I had to shave against the grain in order to get as close as I like. The razor is still going strong.

Day 13 onwards:
The razor's still working well with the original blade but it requires a bit more work to get the same smoothness from the first week. I'll continue to use the original blade and try to see how long I can go with it.

I'm pretty impressed with this razor. Even though it's new, I've managed to shave at my usual fast pace without drawing blood one time. I like the way it hefts and the balance is perfect for my hands.
